Inertia!

The term "Inertia" is described as a tendency to do nothing or to remain unchanged.  In a blog about fitness, you would expect this to be the definition that I would focus on, but it's not.  I actually hate it.  In Physics, the definition is a little more complex.  Inertia - a property of matter by which it continues in its existing state of rest or uniform motion in a straight line, unless that state is changed by an external force.  I love this definition, because it is so incredibly accurate.  A property of matter... all matter in the known universe, to continue in it's existing state.

Vega One - Nutritional Shake

I have to say, I absolutely love this product.  I know it is my first product review and I haven't set the bar really high but don't let that dissuade you.  I also have to mention that I am not sponsored and have not received any form of incentive to write this review.  I just absolutely love this product.

The New Me!

This post is quite possibly the toughest for me to write but I think it's the corner stone of why I am making this website.  I am hoping that it will provide inspiration and make this journey that much more relatable.  I used to be fat.  Not obese, but fat.  Not a little soft, just plain ol' fat.  In this article, I am hoping to take you from where I was to where I am now.

Speed Build Swim Set

This set is all about speed, over and over again.  I want to try and put in the endurance type distances but I want the majority of the main set much faster than my current race pace.  This means that the time I will save swimming fast will be made up by adequate rest between sprints.  The design of this set, in my opinion, is to increase my power output and increase my cardiovascular response.  Swimming is slightly anaerobic in nature due to the fact that you can't breathe whenever you want.  You can increase respiratory stress by taking a breath every 3, 5 or even 7 strokes instead of every other.  The harder the stress on your cardiovascular system, the better it will adapt to utilizing Oxygen efficiently.  This is achieved by both increasing capillary density in the active muscles and increasing the efficiency of oxidative phosphorylation.

Endurance Build Weekend

Monday morning - a time to reflect on the training efforts of the past weekend over coffee.  With a full-time job, the weekends present themselves as the best time to log those long grueling hours of endurance training.  This type of training may be a little lower in intensity but that doesn't make them any easier to power through.  I went into this weekend hoping to achieve three long distance workouts.  In short, I failed.  Friday, with the excitement over my recent website purchase, should have been a swim but turned into a wash.  Instead of swimming 3 km, I sat stationary in front of a computer screen while my dog and fianceé looked at me with utter confusion.  In my opinion, the swim was a sacrifice I was happy to make.

Endurance Ride

Being in the "pre-season" phase, I really want to focus on putting in time on the seat.  I want to get a little more comfortable on the bike (i.e. posture, pedal technique, drinking, eating and mainly building up my ass cheeks for the soreness that inevitably comes with hours on a bike).  I also want to work on my control and maneuverability on the bike while I can still get outside. The goal of this morning is to get my legs moving for my longest ride on record.
