Vega One - Nutritional Shake
I have to say, I absolutely love this product. I know it is my first product review and I haven't set the bar really high but don't let that dissuade you. I also have to mention that I am not sponsored and have not received any form of incentive to write this review. I just absolutely love this product.
Vega is a completely plant-based supplement line that comes to you from Brendan Brazier. For those of you who don't know who this is, he is a Canadian vegan advocate, endurance athlete, author, and former Ironman triathlete. If you haven't seen a photo of this guy, look him up, he is cut. According to their website, after years of reduced energy levels and a need to eat constantly...
"Brendan's stubborn curiosity persevered and after years of research and experimentation, he discovered what sets a top athlete's performance apart from the competition isn't training or natural ability alone. A big difference is nutrition. After intense study, Brendan created a plant-based, whole food diet that helped him recover faster and train harder -- propelling him to become a top professional Ironman triathlete."- myvega.com
Now, I am not a vegan, not even close. I would actually say you would be hard pressed to find me eating a meal that completely lacks one form of meat or another. When this product was first brought to my attention, I actually refused to try it. "Plant-based protein? No thanks. I will stick with my casein, whey and egg isolate generic protein powders." That was foolish. Don't get me wrong, I still consume those but at certain points in my day mainly after training (If meat isn't your thing Vega also makes a performance protein powder that I will review at a later date).
The Vega One all-in-one nutritional shake has become a hallmark of my day like my morning coffee... and I love my coffee. In a single scoop, Vega claims it contains 50% of your daily intake of vitamins and minerals, 16g protein, 6g fiber, and 1.5g OMEGA-3, Antioxidants, probiotics and greens. The product is also dairy, gluten and soy free with no sugar added. My fiancée and I have one of these shakes every morning on the way to work (recipe below) and I can honestly say, I love the flavor and the result. It starts my day off the right way. If you haven't noticed yet, what you consume in the morning will dramatically effect what you eat in the afternoon. If you have a bagel or doughnut for breakfast, you better believe you are going to snack and sway from your nutritional plan. Start the day off right and you will stay on track all day long. You'll still be tempted, just better prepared to walk the other way. I highly recommend testing it out and let us know what you think.
