Welcome to TRI&TRI!

Have you ever been told that humans were not meant to run? Or, "you will need a knee replacement at the age of 45" because running is inherently dangerous, so run at your own risk! Have you ever looked at those who run a half-marathon with envy? Let alone the "ultra runners" who run 100+ miles straight? Have you ever thought you could cover 140.6 miles in a single day swimming, biking and running, all under the power of your own body and call yourself an IRONMAN?

Well, you can... Thousands of people do every year, and they are no different than you are! Well, that's a huge over exaggeration. Everyone is slightly different, but their overall biomechanical make-up and general physiological systems are nearly identical to yours! Humans are one of the strongest distance covering species on the planet! There may be a reason we gather by the thousands to run marathons for "fun". The only difference between you and those ultra endurance athletes is that they were trained to use their biomechanics properly and developed that physiological system over time. It's sad, but likely, that the fastest american marathoner in history is currently over-weight, eating fast food and working diligently at a full time job, with absolutely zero idea he/she is capable of such great feats. I am not that person, but I definitely surprised myself when I decided to compete in IRONMAN Triathlons, after realizing I was unhealthy and overweight! I can guarantee you, you will surprise yourself too!

One of the most daunting aspects of any endurance sport is the amount of time that you need to invest to safely train for the event. Especially in the 21st century, where life seems to be a hectic chaos, rushing from one meeting to the next or in my case, planning experiments months in advance.

Let me ask you this. Have you ever seen an athlete guzzling down a sugary sports drink in one hand while squeezing out a sugar laden "gel" with the other and wondered, "Is this really what we were designed to eat"? Have you ever heard of the saying "Fit but unhealthy"? Our ancestry and DNA give us the capability of being incredibly efficient at burning fat for fuel, but with the ease of obtaining fast burning carbohydrates in our current lifestyle, we rarely do so. Our dependence (nay, addiction!) to carbohydrate rich food is undoubtably leading to compromised health like diabetes, even in endurance athletes. Metabolic efficiency is turning your high octane engine into a Tesla Model S engine, burning a cleaner "fuel" while maintaining high end performance and it is the future of endurance competition. Stop fearing the fat (that you eat, not that you have hiding your lean racing figure!).

I have good news, none of this is as difficult as you may think. The more you focus on form, the safer your training will be. The better your form, the better your efficiency. The better your efficiency, the faster you are. The faster you are, the less you have to train! It's a beautiful cycle, not a vicious one.
